Information we may receive
Depending on how you use the site, we may receive:
- Contact details and the message you choose to send by email.
- An email address if you ask to be added to SMAIT updates.
- Cookie-consent preferences stored in your browser.
- Basic technical information needed to deliver and protect the website.
We do not ask for special-category information through the public contact links. Please do not include sensitive personal information in an enquiry unless it is necessary for us to respond.
03
Why we use it
We use information to respond to enquiries, manage requested updates, remember your consent choice, improve the site where permitted, and keep the website secure and available.
We do not sell personal information. We do not use your enquiry to add you to marketing communications unless you ask us to do so.
04
Direct marketing
We send optional updates only where you have requested or otherwise permitted them as required by applicable law. Every marketing message will identify the sender and give you a simple way to unsubscribe. You may withdraw your consent or object to direct marketing at any time by emailing info@smait.co.za.
05
Service providers and cross-border transfers
We may use service providers for hosting, email, security, analytics or site operations. They may process information only for the services they provide and subject to appropriate confidentiality and security safeguards.
Some providers may process information outside South Africa. Where information is transferred across borders, we will take steps required by applicable law to ensure an adequate level of protection or an otherwise permitted transfer.
The SMAIT platform sign-up and login buttons lead to the separate SMAIT application at smait.lovable.app, which has its own account and privacy processes. External websites are responsible for their own privacy practices.
06
Retention, security and incidents
We keep information only for as long as it is reasonably needed for the purpose for which it was collected, to maintain records of enquiries, or to meet a legal or security requirement. We use reasonable organisational and technical safeguards, but no online service can guarantee absolute security.
If a security compromise affects personal information, we will assess it promptly, take steps to contain and remediate it, and notify affected people and the Information Regulator where required by applicable law.
07
Your choices and rights
Subject to applicable limits and verification, you can ask us to confirm whether we hold personal information about you, access it, correct or delete it, restrict or object to certain processing, withdraw consent, or stop optional direct marketing. You can also change cookie choices using “Cookie settings” in the footer.
To make a request, email info@smait.co.za with enough detail for us to identify the enquiry. We may need to verify your identity before acting on it and will respond within the period required by applicable law.
08
Complaints
Please contact us first so we can investigate and resolve your concern. You may also lodge a complaint with the South African Information Regulator through its official channels if you believe your personal information has been handled unlawfully.
09
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the website, platform links or applicable requirements change. The “Last updated” date at the top shows when the current version was published.
